Dr. Jacob Miguel Vigil is an Associate Professor in the Psychology Department at the University of New Mexico. His theoretical models and empirical research transcend various areas of social, developmental, and evolutionary psychology. Most recently, Dr. Vigil has focused on how the mind adjusts the perception of pain according to social and experiential factors. Dr. Vigil is also a leading pioneer in the area of medical Cannabis research and is the founder of the Medical Cannabis Research Fund at the University of New Mexico, which is a publically-generated funding mechanism that supports wide-ranging research on the safety and efficacy of using Cannabis as a pharmacological agent. Dr. Vigil publishes regularly in peer-reviewed scientific journals and his work has been presented to the U.S. Senate in support of reforming federal policies on medical Cannabis research.
